Abbey Church of St Mary, Margam

The following MIs were provided by Denis Rawlinson. I took the photos during a visit to Glamorgan Aug 2001.

MIs relating to members of Loveluck and Marendez families buried in the graveyard of the Abbey Church of St Mary, Margam, including Grave Sections and Numbers.

Interred WILLIAM son of JOHN LOVELUCK by ANN his wife who died July the 9th 1781 aged 2 years. JOHN the son of the above named who died March the 31st 1786 aged 18 years. Also the above named JOHN LOVELUCK who departed this life the 18th of March 1803 aged 63 years. Also ANN wife of the above named JOHN LOVELUCK who died the 9th of November 1816 in her 77th year.
The Lord gave And the Lord hath taken away Blessed be the name of the Lord

MARY daughter of WILLIAM & CATHERINE LOVELUCK died 9-6-1842 aged 3. Also CATHERINE LOVELUCK died 31-12-1869 aged 57. Also WILLIAM LOVELUCK died 13-2-1890 aged 78. Also MARY CATHERINE LOVELUCK died 31-3-1897 aged 19. Also THOMAS JENKIN LOVELUCK died 29-3-1910 aged 27, grandchildren of the above named.

ANN wife of EDWARD LOVELUCK died 25-9-1828 aged 53. Also EDWARD LOVELUCK died 24-8-1832 AGED 58. Also MARY wife of DAVID RICHARDS died 6-11-1910 aged 66. Also DAVID RICHARDS died 3-3-1919 aged 77.

MARY wife of EDWARD LOVELUCK of Watertown died 26-9-1833 aged 35. Also THOMAS HOPKIN brother of MARY died 17-6-1881 aged 79.

GRIFFITH DAVID LOVELUCK J.P. 1864-1929. MARY CATHERINE his wife 1861-1948. MARY GERTRUDE their daughter 1896-1926 and their sons Lieut CLIFFORD ANDREW 1893-1918, REGINALD GRIFFITH 1897-1940. Also of their daughters GWLADYS MARY 1891-1971, EDITH KATHLEEN 1902-1974, ANNIE DOROTHY 1898-1980, and their son GRAHAM DAVID 1905-1987.

In memory of RICHARD EMANUEL MARENDEZ late of Court Farm died 26th Dec.1937 aged 79. In loving memory of ERNESTINE MARJORIE HAZEL infant child of RICHARD EMANUEL and ADA FRANCES MARENDEZ born 6th June 1903 died 18th July 1904. Here lie the remains of JOHN son of D.EMANUEL MARENDEZ of this parish who died 19th Feb.1803 aged 2 years 1 month. Here lieth the body of DAVID EMANUEL MARENDEZ who died 25 Jan.1823 aged 71 years. Also of ANN his wife who died 6th July 1834 aged 67 years. 

[The transcript of this MI from GFHS also included the following phrase: "Also CATHERINE died 11 July 1826 aged 37 years". Allen Blethyn pointed out to me that this is not actually included in the inscription on the grave.]

In memory of Catherine, the Wife of David Emmanuel Marendaz, of this Parish, who died July 11th 1836, Aged 37 years. In loving memory of Jenkin Bevan Late of H.M. Customs Port Talbot, who died Nov 28th 1896 aged 49 years. Thy Will be Done. Also of Mary, daughter of William Powell Marendaz and wife of the above named Jenkin Bevan, who died 25th September 1913 aged 57 years
