Marriage

Letter from John Talbot 8.11.00, John Lovelock, malster and Mary Whitwick, spinster, Crowmarsh Gifford. By licence. 15.11.1779. Wallingford, St Leonards. Wit: Thomas Thorn, Barnard North, clerk.

Shared note

At her marriage to John Lovelock in 1779 it is stated Mary Whitwick was of Crowmarsh. However, Robert Sterry searched the parish registers of Crowmarsh Gifford in Oxfordshire and found no baptism for her anywhere in the register or any other Whitwicks at all abt 1754. The only Wightwick/Whitwick baptisms in the entire register were between 1731 and 1737 to a Thomas and Martha of a William, a Sarah and an Anne

The only baptism of any Mary Whitwick found so far that might be that of the Mary who married John Lovelock was in Bucklebury: 1761 Dec 6 Mary dau James & Anne Wightwick

However, this is well after the date of her birth as calculated from her age at death as given on her headstone. It could conceivably be a late baptism.

Bucklebury is of interest because a John Lovelock was baptised there in 1737 - who might possibly be her later husband.

One other Whitwick baptism at Bucklebury appears to be a likely sibling of the Mary above: 1765 Feb 24 John son James & Anne Whitwick
