Marriage

1851 census Watlington Oxfordshire George L, head, 37, Master Butcher, born Watlington Oxon Ann S L, wife, 30, born Charmouth Dorset Eliza W L, daughter, 2 (Should be Ellen W), born Watlington Oxon Louisa L, daughter, 4 m, born Watlington Oxon

1871 census Henley on Thames, Oxon Bell St George Lovelock, Head, Married, 56, late Butcher, born Watlington Oxon Ann Lovelock, Wife, Married, 51, born Charmouth, Dorset Ellen Lovelock, Dau, Unmarried, 22, born Watlington Louisa Lovelock, Dau, Unmarried, 20, Dressmaker, born Watlington Oxon Charles Lovelock, Son, 9, Scholar, born Watlington Oxon James Bromley, nephew, 1, born London

It is uncertain how James Bromley, nephew in 1871 census above may be related. However, he appears to have been adopted as a Lovelock and appears as James Lovelock in the 1881 and 1891 census below. He also appears to have married a Louisa Tayler in the registration district of Reading, Berkshire in 2Q, 1897 [2c, 808] and appears with his new wife and daughter in 1901 and 1911 census living at Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire. James' birthplace in the 1901 and 1911 census is shown as London and Kings Cross and his occupation as Grocer's Warehouseman and Fish Hawker. His Wife, Louisa, was born abt 1878 in Twyford, Berkshire and his daughter Eva abt 1900 in Henley, Oxfordshire. James Bromley/Lovelock might be an illegitimate child of either Ellen or Louisa above but no evidence has been found of such a connection.

Note there is an 1870 GRO birth registation: James Bromley, 1870 Jan-Mar Quarter in Saint George Hanover Square Volume 01A Page 313. However, the birth registration has Margaret Bromley. She reported the birth and at the time was resident in the Mount Street Workhouse, in Grosvenor Square, which is where he was born. Mother and son were inmates in some kind of institution in Paddington on the night of the 1871 Census, so he can not be the boy in the Lovelock household in Henley. [Detail by Graham Lovelock]

Listed in 1892-1894 Electoral Register and gives his qualifying property as Bell St, presumably No 88.

Marriage Certificate reads: Register Office, District of Reading, Co.
