Note

Amos (recorded as being aged 38) was listed amongst the 97 survivors from the emigrant ship the 'Northfleet' which was almost cut in two by an unidentified steamer whilst riding at anchor about 2 miles off Dungeness, Kent on 24 January 1873. About 340 people perished.

Despite this experience Amos departed again for Australia and is recorded amongst a 'List of Emigrants despatched p Caranjah 10 March 1873' at Ancestry.co.uk.

The 'Trove' Web Site has an article from 'The Cornwall Chronicle' from Launceston, Tasmania issued on 7 May 1873 that reads:

RAILWAY EMIGRANTS FOR TASMANIA The ship Caranjah, chartered by Messrs Edwin Clarke, Punchard, and Co., with materials and laborers for the Tasmanian railway, left the docks on March 17 and embarked 310 people at Gravesend on the following day, the passengers being taken to the ship, as in the case of the Northfleet from London, by a steamer engaged by the contractors for that purpose....Only a very small proportion of the survivors of the Northfleet proceed by this opportunity.

At some point Amos left Tasmania for New South Wales, arriving on the 'Corango' in 1875. In 1876 he was fined £2 (or 14 days in Gaol) for assaulting a Constable in Deniliquin, New South Wales, but there seems to be no further record of him; certainly no record of his death appears in the Australian data on the main Lovelock Family History Web Site.
