Shared note | John Harvey was born in Wolverton, Bucks, a Railway town. The whole of his family were railway workers who moved around the country from railway town to railway town. John's father was born in Derby, and his mother is said to have come from London on one Census and Derby on another. John moved with his family from Wolverton to Crewe. He then lived in lodgings in Crewe, moved to Kettering for a while, before moving to finally settle in Derby, there to meet and marry Bertha Lovelock. Most of his formative years were spent in Crewe, and he would have spoken with a northern accent. Perhaps this is why the family always believed him to have come from Yorkshire. Some of John's brasswork is still available to see on the Midland Compound Engine 1000, an exhibit at the York National Railway Museum. |
