Shared note | The baptismal entry for Thomas has his surname as Cooper 1861C has a Thomas 19, working as Cowman at Old Farm for James Portsmouth 1881C shows family, Alice eldest - John youngest, living at Holdup Hill Farm House except for Matilda. There is a Matilda of the right age born Headley working in Newbury so it looks as though she had left home. Holdup Hill House was possibly two cottages then as William & Rhoda Gunter (no known family connection) also listed at this location Moved to Ecchinswell some time after the 1891 Census which shows them still at Holdup Hill, with children: Frederick 14, Francis 12, Joseph C (G?) 10 , John 8, Alfred J (T?) 5 and Esther B 2 Electoral Roll for 1918 shows them living in Mill Lane. Mum remembers him being in bed struggling to breathe just before his death. Memorial Cross gives age at death as 78 |
