Notes by John Dixon:

JEL was apprenticed to his father and got his Master's Certificate in 1886. He went to sea 29-3-1887 on his father's ship Isipingo and later on the Ribbleton, which was reposessed in 1893 on return from the far East.

John Dixon has details of most of the ships and voyages he made 1886-1923.

JEL's old ship the Waterwitch, of which he was the master in 1918-19 is now a luxury motor yacht in Turkey.

Completed with satisfaction, sailed with the barque "Isipingo" of London 310 tons reg off no 65735 & the barque "Ribbleton" of Bristol, 375 tons reg off no 29955.
