He went to sea 29-3-1887 on his father's ship Isipingo and later on the Ribbleton, which was reposessed in 1893 on return from the far East. John Dixon has details of most of the ships and voyages he made 1886-1923. JEL's old ship the Waterwitch, of which he was the master in 1918-19 is now a luxury motor yacht in Turkey.
