Shared note | Occupation: Sergeant. Pilot R.A.F. 83rd Squadron Royal Air Force Killed in action, 1940 See also: http://www.allenby.info/aircraft/aircraft3.html (A Web site devoted to aircraft crashes on the North Yorkshire Moors and in Ryedale) Hampden near Coneysthorpe The Hampden was abandoned as it ran out of fuel whilst returning to base after ops to Hamburg on the 18th of October 1940. The plane crashed near Coneysthorpe with no crew on board. The crew were: Pilot - Sgt James G Loveluck RAF - ok Sgt James M Dall RAF, of Fife - ok Sgt F G Constable - ok Air Gunner - Sgt William K Thompson RAF, of Surrey - ok I have yet to visit the site. Sadly only eight days later, Loveluck and Dall were to never be seen again when the Hampden X2990 OL-Z they were in went missing on 26 Oct 1940, they are both listed on the Runnymede Memorial. They were still with 83 Sqdn. Sgt Thompson was killed on 27 April 1941 when the 83 Sqdn Hampden he was in crashed in Germany, he is buried at Kiel. |
