Shared note | Jenkin died tragically at the age of 41 following a road accident in which, having been struck by a moped cylist, he fell and fractured his skull. The following report apppeared in the South Wales Argus - November 1951: Accidental Death Verdict on Newport Man A verdict of accidental death was returned by the jury at the Newport inquest on Jenkin Davies, aged 41, of Highbury, Llanwern Road, Newport, who received injuries in a road accident while walking along Llanwern Road. John Henry Davies, a postman, of Colne Street, Newport, said he was walking with Davies when he saw him move forward suddenly and then fall. Witness then saw a man lay an auto-cycle on the grass verge. The cyclist, Hornby machin, of Ombersley Road, Newport, said he saw the headlights of an approaching car and pulled in close to the hedge. He then noticed two men and a dog, and braked, but hit one of the men with his shoulder. Dr. Robert Vernon Jones said the cause of death was a fractured skull. Mr. T.A.Prowles (Messsrs. T.S.Edwards and Son) represented the relatives of the dead man, and Mr. W.E.Ryan of Cardiff represented the cyclist. After a funeral service at St. Mary's Church, Llanwern, Jenkin was cremated at Glyntaff Crematorium, Pontypridd. |
