| Shared note | Born at Stickle Wen, Baglan on 22 December 1831, Rees moved with his family to Groeswen Farm, Margam(there in 1841). Although he probably lived with his parents until 1960, he was not present for the 1851 Census, and I have found no trace of him elsewhere. His address was given as "Ty Draw" at time of first marriage, in 1860, to Margaret Jones, but he was not present for the 1861 census either. At this time, he and Margaret were living in Elton, Cattaraugus County, New York, USA, because that's where their son, Thomas was born in October 1861. Whatever their plans had been - quite probably to settle in the USA, something changed those plans - presumably the serious illness of Margaret - because by 1834 they were back in Glamorgan and Rees wasburying his young wife in the Jones family grave in Tythegston. By the time of Rees' second marriage to Catherine David in 1868, his address was shown as "Pyle". Farmed at Cold Brook Fawr, St.Andrews Major, between 1869 and 1875/6 (Birth Certificates of Sarah and Maggie give address as "Big Coal Brook") Ran New House Inn & Pyle Shop, North Cornelly, Pyle, Glamorgan (Slater's Directory 1880 shows entries under 'Inns and Taverns' - Rees POWELL, New House, North Cornelly - and 'Grocers' - Rees POWELL, North Cornelly - so it assumed that the two businesses existed on the same premises - New House Inn still standing on same site) 1881 Census gives address as 'Pyle Shop' In June 1896, occupation shown, on daughter Sarah's Marriage Certificate, as 'Retired Tradesman' living at 'Greenfield' or 'The Greenfields' Pyle. 1901 Census shows him still at Greenfield, Pyle, aged 69 "Living on own means" Address at time of death given as 13 Cowbridge Road, Bridgend.
