Marriage | 18-Aug-2003 Robert Sterry extracted some Glamorgan Loveluck records from PRs at the SAG (Society of Australian Genealogists) - on the Loveluck Web pages under Records -> Parish and PRO Records. I'm gradually working my way through them and haven't had too many surprises. However, there are a couple of mysterious baptism records for Coychurch, as follows: 1894 Jun 28 Catherine Janet d. John & Elizabeth Ann Loveluck-Evans, Farmer, Coychurch Higher 1894 Jun 28 Thomas Morgan s.John & Elizabeth Ann Loveluck-Evans, Farmer, Coychurch Higher Looking for candidates I found John Loveluck b. 1860 Llangonoyd (? Llangywnywd?) son of John L (1832-1896) and Cecilia Evans (which would explain the Loveluck-Evans name). I didn't have any info on John's spouse but I do have two children, Janet and Thomas Evans (I didn't have birth/bap. dates). Most of this information came from Janet Hearle. The only fly in the ointment is that this John Loveluck died in a colliery accident and I have the date of his death as 1890. John Dixon's list of Loveluck BMDs does indeed include a PRO record (?) for the death for a John Loveluck 3Q-1890 age 30 - before the Coychurch baptisms which Robert extracted! So what's going on here? I guess that the only possible interpretation is that the children were born shortly before or just after there father's death and the grief stricken mother didn't get around to baptising them until much later. I didn't find any likely candidates in John's BMDs, but I looked in the Lovelock/luck PRO records compiled by Robert and Malcolm, and found the following candidates: Q3 1889 Loveluck Thomas Neath Vol 11a Page ? Q1 1891 Loveluck Catherine Bridgend Vol 11a Page ? The Q1 1891 birth for Catherine (Janet) is feasible if the father John died 3Q1890. 19-Mar-06: Found the FreeBMD reference for birth of Catherine as above: Births Mar 1891 Loveluck, Catherine Bridgend, ref 11a 782 Also checked the Ancestry image for the second record (Thomas) and foundas follows: Births Q3 1889 LovelOck, Thomas George, Neath Vol 11a page 682 thus the forenames don't agree. However, there is also a FreeBMD death record for this Thomas George Loveluck: Deaths Mar 1891 Loveluck Thomas George ref Neath ref 11a 501 which does not square with the baptism in 1894 |
