Aged 26, living with husband William, son William and twin daughters Annie and Margaret (Peggy) at Park Farm, Tilehurst.

Shared note

Lived at Cold Brook Fawr farm, St. Andrews Major (Birth Certificate gives address as "Big Coal Brook") until 1875/6 when the family returned to Pyle to run the New House Inn & Pyle Shop, Cornelly North. Slater's Directory 1880 shows entries under'Inns and Taverns' - Rees POWELL, New House, North Cornelly - and 'Grocers' - Rees POWELL, North Cornelly - so it assumed that the two businesses existed on the same premises - New House Inn still standing on same site. 1881 Census gives address as 'Pyle Shop'. By June 1896, the date of Sarah's marriage, her father had retired and the family had moved to 'The Greenfields' Pyle, where the1901 Census shows her parents still living. She is known to have been a Sunday School teacher in Pyle. In 1896, after her marriage to William Wiltshire Davies, Sarah moved to Berkshire and lived at Park Farm, Tilehurst, where her first son, Willie, was born in 1897. Shortly after this, her sister, Maggie, moved to Tilehurst to live with Sarah and William and she was married here in September 1898. A few weeks later, in October 1898, Sarah gave birth to twins - Annie and Peggy. In 1901 the family were still living at Park Farm, but by November 1903, when Sarah's second son, Percy, was born, they had already spend time in Canada - apparently an abortive farming venture. In November 1903 (registration of birth of Percy) address given as 495 Fishponds Road, Bristol, where Morgan was also born. In about 1907, the family moved to 768 Fishponds Road where they remained until at least 1910 when Jenkin was born. By 1915, the family was living at 14 College Road, and by 1921 William had entered the Bristol Mental Hospital, dying there on 31 March 1921. Sarah raised the family at College Road and must have experienced some financial difficulty as she is known to have taken in lodgers in order to make ends meet. The address was still given as 14 College Road on Jenkin's marriage certificate in 1938, and the family probably remained at that address until after the war. My earliest recollections of visiting "Grandma Davies" were in her third-floor flat in belvedere Road, where she remained until shortly before her death in 1959.
