Marriage | 28 May 1886
Charles Lovelock then married again in 1886, to Martha White, sister of his son in law, 40 years his junior, then died himself in 1888. Martha White was a nurse and had, quite possibly, been nursing Eliza throughout her lengthy incapacity until her death.
email message 14-Feb-08:
Charles Mason (my g.g.grandfather) who married Martha White, born 1860, daughter of John White and Mary (nee Cox). Martha was the younger sister of George White ([Charles Mason's son-in-law] mentioned above) who was the husband of Mary Maria Mason [Charles Mason's daughter].
The couple were only married for two years. Martha White was a nurse. It is assumed that Martha had nursed Eliza (Lovelock) Mason in the years prior to her death at Kintbury on Dec 30 1883 (Eliza had been paralysed for 12 years) and subsequently married Charles thereafter.
Their certificate of marriage states:- On May 28 1886 Parish of Enborne, Berkshire, according to the rites and ceremonies of the Established Church, Charles Mason, 66, widower Shepherd of Enbourne, son of William Mason, Shepherd, to Martha White, 26, spinster of Enbourne, daughter of John White, Labourer. Charles Mason signed X his mark, Martha White signed in her own hand in the presence of Philip Povey & Annie Mason.
Note: In her 1911 Census Return Martha stated that she had given birth to 5 children of whom 4 were still living. Who the missing 2 children are is a mystery.
