MARGAM The Late William Powell Esq., of Eglwysnynydd Farm.- The funeral of this much lamented gentleman took place on Friday last. It started from Eglwysnynydd at about 1.30 and arrived at Margam at about 2 pm., where the remains were interred. The funeral was one of the most respectable and the largest that has been known or seen in the parish, some of those attending having come from a distance of more than 50 miles to pay their last tribute of respect to the mortal remains of their parishioner.His loss, not only to his bereaved wife and sorrowing children but also to his numerous neighbours willbe felt for a long time to come. Mr.Powell was a man greatly revered in his own and neighbouring parishes, was a great authority on parochial matters and one of the first agriculturalists in South Wales. He was followed to the grave by a large number of relatives and friends, amongst whom were noticed H.L.Pritchard Esq., Taibach, J.H.Rowland Esq., Neath; Wm.Williams Esq., Ely; Dr.William Pritchard, Laleston; John ---ton Esq., Margam Cottages; J.Simpson Esq., Pyle; Richard Thomas Esq., Upper Court, Margam; R.Daniel Esq., Bryndu; David Thomas Esq., Mineral Agent and Colliery Manager, Tyeanol, Cwmavon; Dr.J.M.Phillips, Taibach; W.Grey,Esq., Colliery Manager; ---rice, Esq., Bridgend; Rev.D Thomas, Incumbent, Margam; Rev.J.E.Jones, Curate, together with most of the principle ffarmers and others for miles around.
