Shared note

Listed in 1851 census (Nimrod Index) as resident Burbage, age 40, head, born Overtown. James appears to have adopted an alias by 1856 of James Spicer. The Spicer name then occurs in several of his children.

It could be that Spicer was the name of James' father, and although he apparently didn't marry James' mother Mary Lovelock, perhaps James was informed, by his mother or someone else, of his father's name and adopted it.
