Marriage

The identification of this marriage of Thomas Lovelock to Mary Ann Card was originally considered uncertain, and rested on the following facts:

  • The marriage took place at Marlborough, which is only a few miles from Wroughton where the first few children were born. The date of the marriage (1836) fitted with the fact that Rosana (their first child) was born 1836/37

  • There is a Henry Card, visitor, present in the household at the time of the 1851 census

However, when the GRO Online Indices of Births and Deaths became available from 2017 onwards the mother's maiden name was revealed as Card for all the offspring from George onwards.
