Shortly after their marriage they moved to Dublin where George worked for Findlater's Grocery Store. Sons Eamon and George were born in Dublin in 1923 and 1926.

In September 1927 George travelled to New York aboard the SS Leviathan (arriving on the 5th September ) where he took up a position with Findlater's. Elizabeth, Eamon and George followed the following January aboard the SS President Roosevelt arriving on the 14th January 1928. They are recorded in the 1930 US Census living in an apartment in North Hempstead Town in the suburb of Great Neck on Long Island. His wife Elizabeth became ill and they returned to England aboard the SS Scythia and lived with George's widowed mother (Mary Ann ) and brother Joe in Wembley. Joe was a road sweeper for the local council and was buying the house but couldn't keep up the repayments. George sold subscriptions to the daily newspapers and later worked for his brother Frank in his shop-fitting business.

When Mary Lovelock died George remembers several ladies who cooked their meals and in particular an Irish lady called Josie who was very good to them. Later they moved to 56 Barry Road Willesden where Frank had his shop-fitting business. F C Lovelock & Co. Ltd shop-fitters is listed in the local Kelly's Directory from 1937 to 1939.

George said that it was a small house. Downstairs was an office where Frank paid his staff on Friday. Upstairs was 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room with bath and toilet on the ground floor. Frank had a workshop in the rear yard. George is unsure whether Frank owned or rented the property. Barry Road was bombed during the War. Ern drove trolley buses in the area. At the time of his marriage in 1922 Frank gave his profession as Carpenter and his address as 64 Twybridge Way Willesden London NW10. Queenie was 19 years old and gave her occupation as a Dressmaker and was living at 6 Norfolk Road Willesden. Her father was Francis Amos Willett who was an Engineer by profession.

The 1932 and 1933 Wembley, Alperton and Sudbury Directories list F C Lovelock living at 25 Sylvia Gardens Wembley, close to 6 Wigginton Avenue where brother Joseph and his mother moved to in 1932. Frank and Queenie later moved to Fraquedon 94 Piccotts End Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire. (Notes John Lovelock 2007)

Fred (Frederick) John Lovelock married Kath (Katherine) Lily Gauntlett on the 21st May 1923 at Our Lady of Compassion RC Church Linacre Road Willesden London NW10. Youngest brother Joseph P Lovelock was a witness. The church closed in 1939 following the opening of a new church (St Mary Magdalen)

Fred gave his profession as Grocers Manager and he was living with his parents at 64 Twybridge Way. Kath was 23 years old and living at 28 Huddlestone Road Willesden Green and gave her profession as a Milliner. Her Father George William Gauntlett was a Railway Guard

The Lovelock's, Fred, Kitty, Audrey,Theresa and Bernard left England in 1947 on the MV Comando via Valetta, Nairobi and Cairo. The boat broke down and and eventually

they flew the last leg courtesy of Haile Selassi - in his private Dakota. In the Johannesburg Star article it said the journey took 10 weeks in all.

Grandpa (john L) always worked in good foods and wine but can't remember where he worked in SA. Mum (Audrey) worked for Coca Cola in accounts until she had me. Bernard was in sales and travelled a lot selling haberdashery items - I have some of his samples.

When we moved to Durban they moved near to Umshlanga Rocks up the coast from Durban. They returned to England within a few weeks of us (we arrived March 1962) but only stayed in UK for a couple of months before returning to SA - we never saw them again. Think they missed the sun and the wonderful social life they had in SA - have to remember UK was still very much post war era and compared to a bright modern new country that SA was England was very drab and crowded. Roy, who married Audrey, was travelling in Africa after leaving the army. His family came from north London. They married there and all three children were born there as well.
