| Shared note | Note: the identification of Martha Lovelock who married Thomas Francis Wicks on 29 Sep 1878 as the daughter of James Lovelock and Elizabeth Maslen is uncertain, since Martha baptised 1865 may only have been 13 at the time. Notes from Maureen Louise: I think she might have been the Martha Lovelock (daughter of James and Elizabeth Lovelock (Nee Maslen) who was christened on 3 May 1865 in Wilsford near Pewsey. I have her marriage and death certificates and also information regarding her family here in New Zealand. She's a bit of a mystery as when she married 29 September 1878 on her marriage certificate her age is stated as 18 years old, her mother's name was not there and her father James Lovelock was listed as deceased. Jocelyn Hill email 19-Jan-07: Thomas and Martha travelled to New Zealand on the ship "Orari" sailing from Plymouth on the 25 April 1879 arriving in Lyttelton on 26 July 1879. On the passenger list Thomas Wicks is listed as 22, farm labourer, Wiltshire, and Martha Wicks as 19. |
