| Note | As nothing more than his baptism has been found in any UK records concerning John it has been tentatively suggested that he is the man who married Janet Wilson in Australia in 1848, presumably having arrived there voluntarily, possibly some time after his brother Robert obtained his Ticket of Leave and married Jane Currie. Whilst this remains pure speculation for the moment no other evidence has yet appeared concerning the origin of the man who married Janet Wilson. Doubt is also cast on this speculation because of the distances separating the various places in which events took place. |
