Notes from Sue Lovelock:How did I get to link George from Lyneham to Thomas in Cherhill and back from there?I'm confident about the first link. George is shown in the 1851 Census as coming form Cherhill. I searched the PRs and found a family (parents Thomas and Jane, who married there in March 1772) with baptisms going back to 2 January 1773. I didn't at first find George, though he obviously believed that was where he came from, so he must have been part of this family (the only Lovelocks in Cherhill at that time). I later found his baptism record at Compton Bassett, again with parents Thomas and Jane. Interestingly George's brother Thomas and his wife Bridget (nee Kane) were married and later buried at Compton Bassett - I've seen the grave as well as the PR records - but I have no idea what happened to his brothers Stephen, Daniel and Jacob.. The links further back are inevitably more speculative, being based on the dates being right, the parishes (with the exception of Wroughton) being near each other, and the tradition of Christian names in the family. George had brothers named Thomas, (bap 1775), Stephen (1778) and Daniel (1793), and his father Thomas also had brothers Daniel (1757) and Stephen (1760). He also had a sister Priscilla (1745). The next generation back (children of Edward and Jane neé Few) also has Priscilla (1726) and Abraham (1718). Hence the suggestion that Edward's parents were Abraham and Priscilla (neé Greenaway).
