Report in the 'Falkirk Herald' of Thursday 25 June 1874:

SUICIDE OF A LADY - An inquest was held in Reigate, Surrey on Saturday on the body of Mrs Fanny Sarah Lovelock, aged 32, the wife of Mr Samuel Lovelock, a London accountant, and who resided at Blanford Cottage, Reigate. The deceased lady was the daughter of a doctor in Bedfordshire, and was Mr Lovelock's second wife. On Thursday afternoon she sent the servant out with the children, telling her not to return till five o'clock. In the interval, it would appear, she went into her bedroom and committed suicide by taking a strong dose of prussic acid. A bottle, which had contained the acid, was on a table. Several letters, appearing to have reference to the suicide, were found in the drawing-room. In one of these the husband of the deceased expressed his intention not to return home until he had received a satisfactory explanation of her conduct in visiting, contrary to express promise, a particular medical practitioner. She had attempted her life three times previously by poison. Prussic acid had been prescribed for her by the medical practitioner alluded to. The jury returned a verdict of 'Suicide while in a state of temporary insanity.'
