| Shared note | Son John Frederick, aged fifteen, set off to find a job at a business house and by his sixteenth birthday he was at Border Inn, Bacchus Marsh, Melbourne, Victoria. He then moved to Blackwood Rush where he was employed at Golden Points Stores of Oxenham, Cohen and Hazard. John also became an adept stockrider, having a way with horses which led him in later years to be a livery stall/stable owner. He had a livery stable in Ballarat. He was also a coach driver for Cobb & Co, especially working the Ballarat goldfields to Melbourne run. John became friendly with the Parsons family and in 1863 he married Mary Louise Parsons when in Ballarat where he was a Cobb & Co driver. John and Mary Louise moved to Bacchus Marsh in Melbourne where he was the licencee of the Commercial Hotel. The Publican's Licence was granted by the Colonial Secretary. Sadly Marie Louise died in 1890. John married a second time to Margaret Tanner of the Court House Hotel, Bacchus Marsh. John lived in Hawthorn Rd, Caulfield until his death in 1912. He survived both his wives. He is buried in Melbourne Cemetery. John Frederick's Story (as researched at Bacchus Marsh library by Narrandera Councillor Len Dawson Mr Johnny Lovelock b. 1839, a native of Berkshire [Book of 1936) came to Melbourne from New York on 12th August 1853. Nine ships left at the same time. He spent his 16th birthday at Border Inn, Bacchus Marsh, went to Blackwood Rush - was employed at Golden Point Store of Oxenham, Cohen and Haggards - has driven coaches for Cobb 8. Co on several routes in Victoria. He died at Carlton 26th April 1912. An unpretentious, affable man. He became an adept stock rider; had a way with horses which led him to be a livery stall/stable owner, first in Ballarat because of the goldfields. By this time his father had left a butcher shop at Alexandra and became a miner near Daylesford. John became friendly with the Parson family and in 1863 wished to marry Mary Louise Parsons, aged 18yrs. They had to have father's permission to proclaim Banns and had the ceremony at said father's home. Mary was born 21st Feb 1847 at Prince's Borough, Buckinghamshire, England, died 22nd July 1893 and was buried at Maddingly Cemetery. Mary's parents: Charles Parsons & Arabella Hughes. NB the Alexandra butcher shop was taken over by Charles Wright Lovelock and William Hewlett. |
