| Note | On Saturday 4 November 1916 "The Essex Newsman" published the following: 'The parents of Sergt. H W Lovelock, London Regiment, reported wounded and missing, would be grateful for any news of their son. They reside at Beckenham, Kent. Sergt. Lovelock, who enlisted in Sept. 1914, took part in the fighting at Festubert, Loos, Vimy Ridge, and Flers. He was in 1909 champion of the Braintree Swimming Club, and was a pupil of the Surveyor of the Braintree Rural Council. He was also a member of the Chelmsford Swimming Club and finished second in the mile race of that club. An accomplished water polo player, he took part in several important polo competitions.' |
