| Note | James was formerly identified as the progenitor of a 'Marlborough Tree'. However, Alyson Lovelock discovered that a set of Removal Orders applied to James (although then deceased), his wife Susan and children Sarah, Henry, John and Emily, calling for them to be removed from Marlborough to Wootton Rivers. Since Susan would have acquired her Parish of Settlement from her husband on marriage, this is evidence pointing to James' origin being Wootton Rivers. Coupled with this evidence is the fact that in 1841 the Enumerator recorded James' and Susan's ages as 55 and 37 respectively, indicating that he had not followed the instruction to round ages down to the nearest 5 years. Thus James was born in 1785 or 1786. Alyson Lovelock therefore suggested that James was the son of Francis Lovelock and Mary Truman, baptised in Wootton Rivers in August 1785, and these details have therefore been added (11 Feb 2012). In consequence what was previously identified as the Marlborough Tree is now subsumed into the Second Wootton Rivers Tree. |
