Note

George's mother, Mary, was living at 9 Cheltham Road, Devonport when he enlisted in June 1916. In 1921 the address was 18 Leamington Road, Mt Eden. He was employed as a packer at Whittome and Stevenson, Newmarket.

George was killed in action in France on 15th September 1916. He embarked for Marseilles on 20/5/18 [should read 20/5/16?] and arrived at Etarples 28/5/18 [should read 28/5/16?]. Joined "D" company on 13/8/18 [should read 13/8/16?] and was killed one month later. Caterpillar cemetery contains 5,569 graves of which 3,796 of the burials are unidentified. George died in the battle of the Somme and will be one of 1,200 officers and men of the NZ Division whose graves are unknown.
