Note

James may be the man who, having enlisted at an unknown date, ended his days serving in India with the Carnatic European Veteran Battalion. A James Lovelock (said to be 46 years of age) died and was buried in Madras on 27 Jan 1817.

He was apparently the husband, or at least partner, of 'a native woman' whose name was rendered in various forms. Their children, as recorded in the 'Lovelocks in India' records on the main Lovelock Web Site were:

Miles Lovelock (son of James and Rozenah) born on 19 Aug 1811 and baptised at Masulipatam on 29 Sep 1811

Thomas Miles Lovelock (son of James and Rose) born on 1 Nov 1813 and baptised at Madras on 25 Dec 1813

Mary Miles Lovelock (daughter of James by a Native Woman) born on 27 Apr 1815 and baptised at Vizagapatam on 14 May 1815

Letitia Lovelock (daughter of James and Rosannah) born on 9 Jul 1817 and baptised at Vizagapatam on 10 Aug 1817

Miles Lovelock was buried at Vizagapatam on 18 Sep 1828, aged 17, recorded as the baseborn son of Rosannah, a Portuguese Woman.

Thomas Miles was buried at Vizagapatam on 14 Feb 1814 recorded as the son of James Lovelock of the Carnatic European Veteran Battalion.

Letitia appears to be the subject of a burial at Trichonopoly on 22 Sep 1817 (having died the same day), although she was recorded as the daughter of James and Mary Lovelock.

James' partner may be the Rose Lovelock who married John Reynolds in Madras on 4 Dec 1817.

Mary the daughter of James may be the one who married Thomas Taylor of the Carnatic European Veteran Battalion at Vizagapatam on 4 May 1830.
