Marriage | Lydia Carter — View this family 21 November 1771 (Age 28 years) Text: 1771 Nov 21 Thomas Lovelock, bachelor from Twyford and Lydia Carter, spinster, from Twyford Wit: Sarah Ivemy, Jas Young Shared note: RL 13/7/07: The repeated baptismal names in the PR extracts for children of Thomas and Lydia suggest a sad sequence of losses; burial dates have been allocated to Thomas bap 1772, John bap 1774, and Lydia bap 1775 on this assumption (see notes to burials concerned for further comments). The fact that all three children were buried within a week of each other possibly indicates they each contracted a similar infection.

Shared note | RL 13/7/07: Twyford extracts on the Lovelock website (mostly PRs from a Modern Transcript, plus IGI and MI entries) indicate that Thomas b abt 1779 - hitherto our progenitor of the Hants-to-Hereford tree - had several siblings. We also have two 1851 census entries (previously included in a general note to Thomas b abt 1779 but now relocated), in one of which a John Lovelock and in the other a Mary Lovelock appear; from their ages etc. these persons seem likely to be a brother and a sister respectively of said Thomas. Following work by Graham L with the website material mentioned above, and discussion with James L, I have added Thomas and Lydia née Carter to the tree as parents of Thomas b abt 1779; also 6 other offspring of the marriage and such additional data on them as we have (including the aforementioned 1851 census entries). Graham has also constructed the following tree from the overall Twyford extracts on the website. As yet we are unable to connect Thomas b 1743/4 'back' to it. Should further research on the actual PRs in the Hants Record Office enable us to do so, we could possibly add two further generations to the 'top' of the Hants-to-Hereford tree: Unknown LOVELOCK + Unknown UNKNOWN John LOVELOCK bur 14 Oct 1724 + Anne GATES (bur 29 Aug 1720) m 29 Oct 1706 John LOVELOCK b 12 Dec 1707 Anne LOVELOCK b 4 Feb 1711 + Gilbert BARBER m 14 Feb 1738 Robt LOVELOCK bap 29 Aug 1719, bur 18 Jan 1789 + Mary UNKNOWN bur 18 Jan 1789 (**) William LOVELOCK bur 4 Oct 1740 + Anne WAVES (bur 25 Feb 1772) m 18 Sep 1713 Mary LOVELOCK bap 16 Sep 1714 + John ANNELL m 26 Nov 1733 William LOVELOCK bap 29 Jan 1716 Anne LOVELOCK bap 21 Sep 1719, bur 2 Nov 1724 Thomas LOVELOCK bap 9 Jun 1723, bur 21 Jun 1723 Charity LOVELOCK b 8 Nov 1724 Elizabeth LOVELOCK b 4 Jan 1727 + William HAUKS m 10 Jun 1744 John LOVELOCK b 5 Jan 1730 Stephen LOVELOCK b 22 Jan 1733 Edward LOVELOCK bur 1 Sep 1727 at Bishopstoke + Mary COWPER (bur 16 Aug 1734 at Bishopstoke) m 10 Oct 1718 Edward LOVELOCK bap 15 Dec 1719 at Bishopstoke Mary LOVELOCK bap 23 Nov 1721 at Bishopstoke John LOVELOCK bap 15 Apr 1723 at Bishopstoke (**) Graham 7/7/07 (to the two separate draft trees): "The obvious disappointment ... ... is that there is no obvious link between the Thomas who married Lydia Carter and the 3 family groups above. I can see one real possibility, which is that the Thomas who married Lydia and, from his declared age at his burial, was born in about 1744, might have been the son of the Robert who was baptised in 1719. We know from the burial entry that Robert had a wife Mary, so a family is a possibility ... ... [but] we do not have baptisms of children of Robert and Mary anywhere else in the county at the right time. There are only 2 other candidates for Thomas' father I think: John (1707) and William (1716). However, there being no marriage data for either they seem less likely than Robert." |
