| Shared note | Roy served with the Royal Engineers in the Far East, was present at the Fall of Singapore and managed to escape and find his way to Australia - according to the family story. No evidence has been located of this. He demobbed after a final tour of India in 1945. In the late 1940s Roy travelled through Africa, eventually arriving in South Africa where he married Audrey Lovelock. All their children were born there as well. They returned to England in the early 1960s. In 1956 his father Alan travelled to South Africa as a widower to see his grandchildren Anne and June.
