Shared note | Baptised 7 Mar 1775 at Wallingford St Leonard's, Berkshire according to Ancestry.com online tree. According to Public House Families of Wallingford 1785 - 1920 by Christina Eke and Lynne Thorpe, Nathaniel Readings was licensee of the King's Arms Inn from 1803-1806 before Hannah's brother John took over from 1806-1808. The entry reads as below. There appear to be errors in this account. Mr Reading, a bargemaster, married his wife, Hannah Lovelock (born 1781) in 1799 at St Mary's. Hannah was the daughter of John and Mary who were licensees at the Mermaid in 1784. Nathaniel had six living children and it is interesting to note that Richard Child was the witness at two of the children's weddings. Perhaps he was a church verger or had a formal role in the town. Nathaniel died age 43 in 1824 and Hannah in 1830 aged 44 years. [Kindly provided by John Lovelock, Nov 2020] |
