Shared note

Probably the Edward Lovelock in Billings Directory and Gazetteer of Berks and Oxon 1854 where Edward is listed as pig dealer and green grocer, Wood st.

Died in the workhouse as a pauper in 1902, aged 81, having spent the previous 35 years therein.

Probably the Edward Lovelock who appeared in the Oxford Chronicle 23 March 1878: Borough Bench, Friday March 15th - (Before the Mayor, Ald Deacon, H. Hawkins, J H Spokes, T A Champion, and W Payne, Esqrs) - Edward Lovelock and William Rison, were charged on remand with stealing a rake, the property of Mr E Steel, of St Mary's Street. Prisoners pleaded that they only took the rake to get some water cresses out with and intended to take it back again to the place from where it was taken. Prisoners were discharged.

Oxford Chronicle 27th Feb 1858 Edward Lovelock, well known as a pig jobber in our market, was charged with having stolen a quantity of dry peas, the property of Charles Gammon from his premises in Castle Street.

Oxford Chronicle 30th Sept 1872 Edward Lovelock, an old offender, was brought up in custody charged with stealing a basket, the property of William Partridge. Prisoner, who was apprehended with the basket in his possession was remanded to the Petty Sessions.

Oxford Chronicle 16th Aug 1879 Edward Lovelock. A jobbing gardener, against whom there were six previous convictions, was brought up in custody charged with stealing, from St John's allotments, a quantity of potatoes. Sergeant Barnes deposed that on Saturday morning last, he was watching the above gardens and shortly before seven he saw the prisoner go into a garden in the occupation of Mr Huggill, and get some potatoes. He then came out into the road, where he met him and asked him what he had got, and he then locked him up. Prisoner was committed for six months.
