Arthur appears to have changed his name from Arthur Alexander Selby to Archie Alexander Evans sometime between 1905 - when his son Nigel was born - and when he emigrated to Canada in 1908.

«/i»Archie changed his name to disassociate himself with his first wife and son. There was never any talk of them in our family. Archie never applied for a passport when my grandmother Elsie (nee Lovelock) travelled by plane back to England and he never applied for an old age pension, probably because he'd need a birth certificate that would show a different name. He was a dairyman and later a breadman sales rep. He loved to garden and never wore his false teeth so 'kisses' were ones I giggled at! He met my grandmother Elsie (Lovelock) at a dance in Winnipeg and he took her out for oysters after. According to my grandmother when I questioned her about why Papa never spoke about his family in England she said "it was never important to do so.
